Job Posting: Shop Laborer (Fulltime)

Full time: weekdays (9am-5pm) Cree Star Gifts Swan River,

Manitoba Salary Range: 14.00-16.50 per hr. starting

Introduction: Cree Star gifts is a local Indigenous owned business that manufactures traditional Indigenous crafts, particularly Star Blankets and Traditional Teepees. We have been in operation Since 2011 and are in the process of expanding our business and therefore need staff.

Conditions of employment: Must be at least 18 years of age legally entitled to work in Canada. Must be physically capable of some heavy lifting.

Qualifications: Essential Self-motivated, teachable, and willing to learn a new Trade. Experience working independently with minimal supervision. Experience working as part of a team or crew which had a common goal.  Desired Experience as a cobbler or tailor or seamstress. Or someone who has done leather work or who has sewn heavy duty materiel. Experience working with Industrial sewing machines would be a great asset. However, we are willing to consider applicants who do not have sewing experience but may have experience with other machinery and or power tool experience. Example would be people who have been in the construction or mechanic industry. Experience with measurements (using tape measure and reading plans, blueprints). Experience creating and designing working blueprints for custom projects. Somewhat mechanically inclined

Duties The Shop laborer would be trained to operate different Industrial sewing machines. This will include cleaning and daily maintenance of each machine. They will be trained to read plans, diagrams and blueprints that outline the measurements and pieces which make up our canvas teepees. They will be trained to cut and measure out all canvas pieces for assembly. They will be trained to manufacture piece work and assist in the assembly of all our finished products. The Shop laborer would be trained to sew heavy duty tent canvas which is used for our teepee manufacturing. The Shop Laborer will also be responsible for maintaining a safe and clean working environment (ie. sweeping, and mopping and using an industrial vacuum.)
